About
I spend most of my online time on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and Delicious.
At JaCKPie I am currently a member of the harold team Kevin and splinter team Guttersmack and I am the coach for Babies mit Bearden and Einstein Meets Elvis. Most recently I have been focused on a Duo experiment called Project Gemini and still tour my solo shows MixTape and PackRat.
I have been involved in theatre heavily since high school (got my start I did some small plays in grade school) and I graduated from Valdosta State University with a BFA in Theatre in 1997. I then toured the US for three years as an actor and director with Missoula Children’s Theatre and Repertory Theatre of America before moving to Chicago to study long-form improvisation. I put myself through a self created long-form masters program by studying at Improv Olympic (now known as IO) and The Playground. In 2001 I moved back to Atlanta and, together with Chris Pierce, started the two man show JaCKPie. In 2002 we started our own company called JaCKPie Productions and University and in 2005 were re-invented the company as the JaCKPie Theatre Workshop with our focus being taken off of production and put on workshopping and community.
My wife Mary and I have a house in Acworth, GA we live there with our cats Annie and Gandalf.
Want to know more? Here is an unordered list of randomness about me:
-
I love to write poetry, prose and drama and even wrote comedic essays for my college newspaper.
-
I enjoy reading scifi and fantasy novels and credit my parents with helping to develop my imagination by giving me a seemingly endless supply of novels.
-
I play guitar. I am not very good. I am self taught.
-
I am into photography (appreciation mostly and whatever art I can make with a point and shoot digital.)
-
Before I got into theatre my favorite passtime was drawing and I was pretty sure I’d be an animator until I joined Cobb Children’s Theatre in high school and eventually picked my new path.

I wanted to be a drummer in the band in middle school but my teacher told me on the first day that the snare drum I bought was “broken” and after a trip to the music store I discovered that the only instrument I could afford to rent was a flute. Nobody told me not to rent the flute. I rented the flute. I was then made fun of for the next 3 years. It made me stronger. Later I found out that my “broken” drum could have been easily repaired and I could have been a drummer and would now be on tour with a rock band making millions of dollars.
-
The teacher who taught me music in middle school was Mr. Lauer. We called band class ”Mr. Lauer’s Flower Power Hour.”
-
I am pretty active on Facebook and Flickr.
-
As a child I did an impersonation of Howard Cosell that sounded exactly like Robin Leach.
-
I am a geek for tech stuff. Yes… I own a Crackberry. Yes… I just called it a Crackberry.

Wow, it’s great to see how far you’ve come! I still remember when you directed us onstage in York, Pa with Missoula. You probably don’t remember me, but I hope all is well with your lovely wife and kitty!

What Jim neglects to mention is that he is also the best dang improv teacher in the city of Atlanta. Luckily I am here to mention it for him…
